Located in Camden, New Jersey, the Camden Center for Youth Development, Inc. (CCYD), formerly Juvenile Resource Center, Inc. (JRC), is a private, not-for-profit, 501(c)(3), community based organization. The CCYD is funded by various public and private sources. It offers a fully articulated program of services for youth, including youth leadership development, academics, job/vocational skills development and physical, spiritual and emotional proficiencies.
The CCYD is dedicated and committed to engaging young people, their families, key leaders, funders and all stakeholders to understand and promote youth development concepts and practices.
The CCYD began in 1977 as the Juvenile Resource Center, Inc. (JRC) as a pilot program under the Comprehensive Employment and Training Act (CETA) to address the needs of youth through educational and counseling services.
When the JRC was founded, it was in response to a need in the community to serve and educate serious youth offenders for whom there was no other alternative but incarceration. As we saw other needs we changed and expanded the programs to meet them. We strengthened our job search and placement. We added an Alternative School. We developed vocational training. We began to teach living skills. We opened small businesses. And, we initiated our after school Rites of Passage program for adolescent males, P.E.A.C.E. Program for boys. P.R.I.M.E. Program for girls.
Now, we have evolved into the Camden Center for Youth Development, Inc. (CCYD) with an agenda to support Camden's youth and youth serving organization using a youth development model that provides support, resources, skills and opportunities to youth and youth serving organizations.
